Return to the El Paso Mountains! Burro Schmidt Tunnel, Mines and more. Day trip
Details
We had a great trip to the El Paso Mountains this past weekend! But we only saw a tiny sliver of what it has to offer. Let's spend a day exploring more of it! Destinations could include the Holly Ash mine, Burro Schmidt Tunnel, Sheep Springs, and a possible revisit of the ancient village site from last trip.
This will be a day trip as the colder weather might make for uncomfortable nights if camping.
We will start off at Red Rock Canyon State Park off of Highway 14. We will then make our way to the Old Dutch Cleanser mine as well as the Holly Ash mine. We will visit a couple of old cabins along the way as we head on down to the famous Burro Schmidt tunnel.
After visiting Burro Schmidt tunnel we we start the trek to Sheep Springs area to search for ancient petroglyphs as well as a possible geoglyph! All the while we will be exploring along the way.
Our trip will take us back to the ancient village site we visited last trip and we will end up on Highway 395 to conclude our adventure.
