D&D SESSION ZERO
Details
Hello, fellow adventurers!
Are you eager to form a D&D group, and be a player? or perhaps you wish to be the Dungeon Master?
If so, we should start with a “Session zero”. That is how we call the preliminary session to every first game of D&D, where the Players create their PCs (playing characters) in coordination with the DM.
This process is super fun and exciting in an of itself! Here’s when you imagine your character’s background story, decide the race (human, elf, dwarf, half-orc…) and the class he or she wants to pursue (wizard, fighter, rogue…).
Subsequently, on session 1, the DM (the ‘Dungeon Master’, who is the guide and umpire of the game) will be have an adventure ready for that specific group of PCs to embark on, so that, together, you start creating a story in a fantastic world while you star in it.
It will help a lot if the players keep contact with the DM (and among each other) even before session zero. This allows the DM to adjust the game to everyone’s expectations and desires (D&D is quite an ‘a la carte’ kind of game, where the only hard rule is to have fun).
What do you need to bring? Not much, specially because it is session zero.
- You will be provided with a pdf of the game rules in advance (the Player Handbook) so you can get familiar with all the possible characters, classes, weapons, spells, etc, that are available on DnD 5 (D&D 5th edition of 2014) and start thinking of who will be your PC. The DM will get a monster manual too.
- If you could bring a set of special RPG dice with you (20 sided, 8 sided, etc) it would be awesome. You can get those at most table-top games stores.
