The Sandhill Cranes and other migratory birds are back. Let's go and try to photograph them!

We will meet at the Parking Lot in front of the Visitor Center at the Cosumnes River Preserve. Feel free to carpool as needed as there may be limited parking. There are usually lots of waterfowl and small birds in and around the ponds and in the fields behind the center. After an hour or two, as it gets closer to sunset, we will drive a few miles to Staten Island Road and hope to see Sandhill Cranes and lots of other large birds as they gather for the evening. BONUS: There are often raptors working the fields and usually great sunsets to photograph from Staten Island Road.

Sunset is about 4:50 pm, so we will wrap up shortly after that.

We recommend that you dress in layers as it can be quite cold this time of the year. You should consider bringing your long lens (suggest at least a 300mm EQ - zooms are good), memory cards, extra batteries, tripod, mud boots, hat, snacks and water, etc.

PLEASE NOTE: If it rains on the date, we will cancel and reschedule for another (nicer) day.
