Here’s what we’ll be diving into and what you will learn:
1. Exploring Our Cosmic Home: We’ll kick things off by looking at our beautiful planet Earth and its companion, the Moon. Together, we’ll reflect on the stunning views shared by Apollo astronauts and what it means to truly see our home from above.

2. Journeying through the Solar System: Next, we’ll set our sights on our solar system. We’ll discuss the incredible scales involved and ponder the exciting possibilities of life beyond Earth. Who knows what we might discover?

3. Delving into the Milky Way: As we continue our adventure, we’ll wander through our own galaxy, the Milky Way. We’ll explore the dazzling stars and mesmerising nebulae, getting a sense of just how vast and beautiful our galactic neighbourhood is.

4. Traveling to the Cosmic Neighbours: Ready to accelerate? We’ll zoom past our nearest galactic neighbour, the Andromeda Galaxy, and into our local supercluster. It’s wild to think about the billions of galaxies that form the cosmic web!

5. Reaching the Edge of the Observable Universe: Our journey will eventually take us to the Cosmic Microwave Background. This marks the edge of what we can observe—what a breathtaking perspective!

6. Reflecting on Our Place in the Universe: Throughout our journey, we’ll pause to think about our own place in this ever-expanding universe. We want to explore how these cosmic insights can enrich our daily lives and perspectives right here on Earth.

7. Fostering Dialogue and Reflection: This workshop isn’t just a lecture; it’s a time for us to connect! We’re excited to create a space for dialogue, discussion, and reflection. There will be plenty of chances for you to ask questions, share your thoughts, and interact with others.

About Your Talk Leader:
Ed Macaulay- Lecturer in Physics and Data Science
Ed Macaulay is a passionate lecturer in Physics and Data Science at Queen Mary University London, with a PhD in astrophysics from the University of Oxford. His research specialises in supernova cosmology and dark energy, and he has explored observatories worldwide, including Siding Springs in Australia and Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

A dedicated educator, Ed has taught a wide range of courses from introductory solar system astronomy to advanced general relativity and cosmology. He is committed to making science accessible and engaging for all, regularly presenting outreach events in diverse venues such as cafes, pubs, cinemas, and music festivals.

His outreach efforts include contributions to Pint of Science, Astronomy on Tap, Stargazing Live, and Café Scientifique, reaching audiences from primary school students to specialist astronomy groups.

Ed is driven by the belief that physics and astronomy should be understandable and enjoyable for everyone, and he is eager to share his enthusiasm for the cosmos with you!
