This is off of the AT at Sams gap. Based on the most recent trip report is about 4 miles.
Most recent trip report below.
Once you go under the bridge, and up near the cemetery the AT turns and winds up the forest. I tagged on the small peak called Sams Gap Knob and then headed to this ranked peak. On the way there is a lot of meandering and up and down gains. Near the summit there is a sign with a blue trail to the actual High Rock formation. I was disappointed that the there was no rocks at the summit, so I did venture down this very short blue trail to the rock and yes there is a view from it and a bit of a cliff, but it is not the most impressive thing but certainly is worth the extra down climb. The summit marker on PB shows the summit is at this junction and closed contour but I was not sure so I hiked to the other closed contour and I would bet that is the actual summit. I think the red dot should be moved to be more accurate but as always if in doubt, and if you are purist one can touch both places and be sure. This only adds a few tenths to the journey.
