Marble Springs Excursion w/ETW, Saturday, November 23rd, 11:00 Walk & 1:00 Tour

Exec Summary: Marble Springs State Historic Site Guided Tour, Saturday, November 23rd, 1:00pm tour. 1220 W Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville TN. Please plan to arrive by 12:30 for the tour to obtain tickets ($7). Optional 5K walk of the Marble Springs Trails. The walk will start at 11:00am and end at 12:30pm. The walk is rated a 3C with moderate hills and natural surface trails.

What: Take a guided tour of the Marble Springs State Historic Site. This was the early home of Governor John Sevier. Listen to the rich history of this amazing man. We will also have an optional 5K walk before the guided tour. The walk is on natural paths with moderate hills and a few downed logs to climb over. It would be rated a 3C by the AVA. We will then go to lunch following the tour. We plan to check out Hardwood BBQ or Chops South (southern food).

When: Saturday, November 23rd, Tour starts at 1:00pm, please arrive at 12:30pm to purchase tickets ($7.00 if we get 10 people to attend) in the gift shop. We will have an optional walk starting at 11:00am (no fee) starting from the parking lot.

Where: 1220 W Governor John Sevier Hwy (Route 168), Knoxville TN. Look for brown sign with white letters. This is about 4.5 miles east of Route 129, Alcoa Hwy on Route 168 or 2.25 miles west of Route 441. Lunch at Hardwood BBQ, 2014 W Governor John Sevier Hwy or Chops South (southern food), 7417 Chapman Hwy (Route 441).

History: Marble Springs State Historic Site is the last home and farm of John Sevier, Tennessee's first governor, who was elected in 1796. Sevier served six terms as Tennessee governor in Knoxville, the state's first capital city. He also acted as the first and only governor of the short-lived State of Franklin. Sevier was a congressman from the Eastern District for four terms, a high-ranking officer in the North Carolina militia, and a hero at the 1780 battle of Kings Mountain against the British. Farmer, trader, land speculator, soldier, politician, husband, and father of 18 children, John Sevier embodied the pioneer spirit of the day.

Pets are allowed on the grounds on a leash, but not in the buildings.
