What we’re about
Hi Friends and Welcome to East Midlands Data
We're a community run Microsoft focused data user group. We provide free training, socialising, networking, recruitment, geeky debate and more on a wide range of data technology topics to anyone who wants to come along to our meetings.
Our in-person events run on the second Wednesday of every month.
To cover as much of the East Midlands as possible we currently alternate locations between Nottingham and Derby.
For additional annoucements join our community mailing list here: bit.ly/45UE6DP
Lastly, please be aware that all our events are covered by a Code of Conduct. This can be found here: bit.ly/EMD-CodeOfConduct
Thank You

An Engineers Guide To Realtime Data Handling And Analytics
The velocity of data is getting faster across many industries, fuelled by the business demand to gain insights and value from sources in near real-time. This necessity is then allowing decision makers to pivot and ultimately stay ahead of the competition. Furthermore, the growth of the internet of things and ‘smart’ devices now means the volume of that high velocity data has exploded. Meeting this demand requires new concepts and new designs for data/solution architects, with high throughput ingestion endpoints and query stream tools that can perform aggregations ‘on the fly’.
In this course, we will address the above head on. Discussing and designing architectures that can scale and burst for high throughput events. Querying using both SQL and KQL to blend stream and batch data feeds for downstream reporting. As a platform, we’ll use Azure Event Hub and Azure Stream Analytics to ingest and handle that initial data stream. Before applying the same patterns to other resources in Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Explorer. Understanding the patterns to apply as an architect vs the tooling available for delivery.

The Reality of Fabric Warehouses and Deploying Models using Dbt
Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft's flagship Software-as-a-Service Analytics service combining Power BI, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Realtime Analytics, and Machine Learning. Underpinning Fabric is a variety of workloads, engines, and languages to support in building a robust Analytics solution.
Dbt (data build tools) is a data transformation tool that enables data analysts and engineers to transform data in a cloud analytics warehouse. Is is feasible to build a solution on Fabric Warehouses using Dbt? Why would we want to if so? In this session we'll be diving into the integration of Fabric Warehouses and Dbt including Dbt Core and Dbt Cloud.
In this session attendees will understand the use cases of Dbt with Fabric Warehouses and understand the relevant workloads, and crucially
the limitations and caveats.___________________________________________________________________________________
