ART BASICS: PRINTING
5 week short course
Thursday evenings, 6.30 - 8pm
7th, 14th, 21st, 28th November & 5th December
£54 for five week course / £14 for a single lesson
Our Art Basics sessions are tailored to those who have not picked up a pencil in years, individuals who wish to reignite their creativity and those who would like a refresher. The classes begin with a short presentation before a structured activity takes place using specific materials.
This half term we will solely focus on simple print-making methodologies and you will be shown how to successfully use a range of different printing processes. By taking part on this course, you will improve your knowledge of image making, you will gain a better understanding of how to use a range of media and you will have participated in a variety of mindful activities. All materials, refreshments and car parking is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!
Session One / 7th November: Gelli printing During our first class together, you will have the opportunity to play with colour, texture and pattern. You will be introduced to the art of Gelli printing, and you will make a series of bright and eye-catching monoprints using acrylic paints and a variety of tools. You will take home a range of abstract artworks that are completely unique to you.
Session Two / 14th November: Printing with lino
Our second lesson together will focus on the process of lino cutting, and you will have the opportunity to make a series of seasonal prints (perfect for Christmas cards!) . Please note that we will be using sharp cutting tools for this class, so it is not suitable for young children.
Session Three / 21st November: Polystyrene plates
During our third session, you will create distinctive images by drawing directly onto a polystyrene printing plate, before applying block printing inks with a roller. The subject matter is entirely up to you, but there will be additional resources if you cannot decide! This is also an excellent class to attend, if you need a quirky festive gift for someone special!
Session Four / 28th November: Screen printing with stencils
Our fourth session will be an exciting one! Learn how to cut stencils out of newsprint and use these on a simple silk screen. By the end of this class you will have created a number of painterly, colourful and eye-catching screen prints that everyone will be impressed by!
Session Five / 5th December: Mix and match!
Our final session will be an opportunity for you to select one of your favourite printing processes and to continue to develop your ideas further. You will be able to spend time working on your own project, with the option of using any of the materials and tools that you have been introduced to previously.
