Description📜
This is hike #16 in a series of 20 beginner friendly hikes that cover the entire 80+ miles of trails in Forest Park! Because not all of the trails can be done as independent loops (and we will be doubling over our path many times) it will require hiking more than 115 miles to complete the entire challenge. If you miss a hike, no worries, we have this series twice a year and makeup hikes can be arranged.Join me on a truly heart pounding ascent up Tolinda Trail/NW Maybrook Ave. via a short little jaunt through a residential area adjacent to the park and Hwy 30. Once we hit Leif Erickson we can either continue directly to the tippy top on Waterline Trail and break at No Name Trail’s meadow, OR we can take the long way up via Leif to Cannon and then Wildwood to Waterline. Which would break up the hike nicely. Either way is possible and we may decide as a group. Once we complete the loop and meet back up with Tolinda, we will take it back down to the starting point mostly the same way we came up.
Difficulty💪🏽
This IS a beginner friendly hike, as we will be keeping a pace of an average of 2-2.5mph throughout, could be slightly faster/slower depending on groups’ abilities. I try to go as fast as the slowest person will allow me. This can be difficult for some that have sedentary lifestyles, so please don’t be discouraged if at first you don’t succeed, just try try try again.Carpooling/Driving🚗🚙
Since this is in town, I will not be carpooling myself, but if you wish to do so please organize that on your own in the Event Chat/Comments section.
For those who want to carpool, just know that you should be prepared to drive or take public transit.Parking/Fees🅿️
There are no fees at this location, though space is limited. The address given is for location purposes only. It is a residential neighborhood so take extra time to find a spot and walk down to the intersection of NW Hoge Ave. and HWY 30.
There is a rather aggressive resident that lives the closest to our meetup spot that does not like people parking on the shoulder in front of their house. You’ve been warned. I don’t park there because I don’t need the drama, not because I believe they have any valid argument. I just park up the street a little and walk down.Meetup Coordinates (Portland): 45.59247° N, 122.78098° W📍

- 🛼EDHC Weekly Adult Skate Nights @ Oaks Skate Park!🪩Oaks Skating Rink, Portland, OR
WHEN: Every Tuesday, All Year (minus select Holidays)
TIME: 7-9:30pm
WHERE: 7805 SE Oaks Park Way, Portland, OR 97202
DIFFICULTY: All Levels
ADMISSION: $13 - Skate Rental include - Personal Skates welcome, subject to inspection.
18+ OnlyHey everyone!
I was reminded recently that Sellwood’s very popular Oaks Park hosts a weekly ’Adult Skate Night!’
I have attend a couple times now, and each time I leave with a stomach sore from all the good laughs (not even mentioning the sweat gleaming off me, (it’s more of a workout than you’d expect!). Let’s switch out or hiking shoes for some roller skates!
We’ll be coasting smoothly across the largest and oldest running Roller Skating Rink in N. America alongside some groovy tunes. Adult Skate features a live DJ playing retro and current hits. The 1st/3rd/5th weeks our guest DJ is DJ Glyde. 2nd/4th Tuesdays feature DJ Groove. Requests welcome and encouraged!
Outside food/beverages are prohibited. The rink cafe will be operational during Adult Skate; view menu.
For more rules and expectations, visit their site.
This event is held weekly, with or without EDHC. While I intend to be present for the majority of the times, I cannot promise that I will be available to make it every time. I will have these posted on our events calendar weekly and encourage everyone to attend regardless of my presence. When I do attend I will be waiting inside near the entrance at the above start time and wait there for 10-15min to be able to greet people as they come. After that time you’ll just have to find me or other group members on your own (either going in circles on the floor or hanging in the AC’d cafe).
All visitors participating in roller skating must complete a waiver. Do this online so you don’t have to while waiting in line in person or when they ask you while you’re making your ticket purchase. It just goes faster if you do this ahead of time. Spectators are welcome at no charge.
Difficulty: This is a beginner friendly event since participants will be allowed to skate as much as they wish, if at all.
Carpooling/Driving: I will not be setting up a formal carpool for this hike because this is an in town event that is easily accessible via mass transit.
Parking/Fees: A parking fee of $3 applies during Adult Skate. The parking fee is payable onsite via self-service parking meters or on your mobile device at t2p.mobi/oaks1905. Only credit/debit cards are accepted at the parking meters; please visit the Skate Shop to pay with cash. Parking spaces are first-come, first-served and the lot frequently fills to capacity; do not purchase your parking online until you have a parking space onsite. There are no refunds.
There IS free limited parking at Sellwood River Front Park if you don’t mind the .3mi distance walk to the roller rink.Be Prepared

If you miss a hike, no worries, we have this series twice a year and makeup hikes can be arranged.Oh my gatos! I hope you’ve all eaten your corn flakes for today! There’s no escaping this unambiguous ascent of Northwest BPA Road.
At this point in the series I expect(sorry if that sounds harsh, much ❤️) you to try your best to push yourselves on this one. I recommend everyone ascend this at whatever one’s pace is. Your pace is whatever speed(fast or slow) you can go without having to stop. This will be a great way to challenge yourself and see how much progress you have made if you’ve been keeping up with the series since the start. This is not a race, and I will give the last person to make it to the top as much time to rest as I’ve had. Once we’ve all congratulated ourselves for being pretty amazing human beings we will head down Firelane 13 & 13a for another heart pounding passageway. On our way back up towards BPA we will pass by picnic benches a second time, this is where we will break. From there it’s a relatively easy walk down BPA until it meets up with the trail that threads it’s way through Forest Parks entirety, Wildwood! Detouring onto Northwest Newton Rd will brings us back down to Hwy 30’s starting point! Great job everyone!Difficulty💪🏽
This IS a beginner friendly hike, as we will be keeping a pace of an average of 2-2.5mph throughout, could be slightly faster/slower depending on groups’ abilities. Shortly thereafter the Hwy veers Left and on your Righthand side is a gravel shoulder that can accommodate many vehicles if everyone parks askew. OR you can brave it and park directly at the Trailhead gate just off of Hwy 30, but I do not enjoy parking there for fear of getting struck be traffic.Meetup Coordinates (Portland): 45.61296° N, 122.79862° W📍

🌑**New Moon Socials @ The Zipper! **🍻

Time: 04:00pm - 06:00pm
Location: The Zipper (2705 NE Sandy Blvd
Portland, OR 97232)
Duration: +/- 2hrs*”Please read thoroughly, there have been many updates made.”
I invite you all to come out and grab a seat over at the The Zipper!
🍗Come one, come all! Let grab some food over at a location I’d go to when I lived in the area. This scene has everything from the crispiest chicken sandos, to the most comforting bowl of ramen, eating at the Zipper never disappoints.
Come very hungry & thirsty!Yet another really great venue that has the perfect atmosphere to sit down and enjoy quality time with a great fellowship. There is a wide variety of food at this location.🧙🏻♂️
We will not always host this event at this location, so keep your eyes out for future venue changes!“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” - T.O.
I intend to use this celestial event as a cue for us to sit down as a group and chat about all the things that connect us. This will be a great opportunity to continue chats that might have been prematurely ended elsewhere in our travels. Bring with you any ideas for events you’d like to see happen in the future. I also encourage any aspiring event/hike leaders to attend this event. We are always on the lookout for more leaders to help grow our family. Commiserations and libations to the Ether!🍻
Our group needs every hobbit willing to chip in as it can find. We would not have events available to you were it not for people just like you, big footed and willing to invest time and effort for yours and everyone’s benefit. 👨🏾🦳👳🏽♂️👨🏻🦲🧑🏽🍳👩🏽⚕️👩🏾🌾🧑🏼🔧 Our communities thrive when groups like ours grow and share what we know with those around us. The more we learn from one another the more resilient our communities become to adversity.
“The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true.” - Galadriel
