🌑Our silent sentinel stabilizes our planets axial wobble, regulates tides, and reflects radiation from the sun to us among countless other influences, the Moon has been an integral part of our planet, all its inhabitants and our culture at large.
🌒Let’s partake in a long established tradition of walking at night to the light of our celestial sibling and sharing stories and spaces together.
🌓We will begin with plenty of light but expect to be hiking at dusk and in the dark.
🔴_Red-light filters/lens preferred over others. If you do not have a red lens you will be expected to hike behind those that do._
🔦Headlamps and/or flashlights are mandatory for this event. Phone lights will not be acceptable substitutes!
🌔We may be at the summit looking for the moonrise as it is expected, but this also may not always be possible. The exact time may be delayed depending on where it crests over the horizon. Sometimes the moon rises well before the sunsets, in which case we will be at the summit merely to enjoy both of their presences if possible.
Be malleable, learn to adapt.
🌕Please bring layers or warm clothing since it can still get cold and is known to be windy at times on top of Powell Butte. If we have cloudy/rainy weather we will still hike so try to be as rainproof as possible.
There will be time to eat food/snacks and use the ‘toilet-trees’ if need be while we are at the top. Expect to be up there a while (an hr or so if weather permits) and not moving while we enjoy each others company and watch the often taken for granted cosmic spectacle.
🌛This is not exactly a beginner friendly hike, as we will be going approximately six miles in low light conditions and there is a little bit of elevation. Though we will not be going very fast so if you are a beginner and are looking for a slightly challenging hike, this could be it.
🌜Since this event is in town, I will not be organizing a carpooling situation for it. If you need a ride feel free to organize as much in the Event Chat.
🌚There are no fees for parking here. This is neighborhood street parking. We usually park on the South side of Center St. (closest to the park). I personally feel like this location is safest compared to the others (break in wise). If you are not familiar with this location come early enough to account for potentially getting lost. If you are at the 148th Ave. entrance you are wrong.
