W&OD Trail: Arlington to Vienna (with Herndon option) -- E-bike Lovers
Details
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43436538
17.2 miles to Vienna. 34 miles if you extend your ride to Herndon. Bathrooms at beginning, middle, and end. Lunch stop at either destination.
Note: Wednesday Rides always meet at 10:30, and we bike at 10:45!
We leave from the Bluemount Park parking lot. Listed at right is the address of a nearby house, which will get you to us. It’s just a minute after you cross route 50.
For this Wednesday romp, we offer you a relaxed ride from Arlington to Vienna and back again (17.2 miles) along the W&OD trail. Have more time and energy? Continue on the W&OD to Reston or Herndon, 34.5 miles round trip.
Either ride is a straight shot on the W&OD requiring minimal navigation. (You should stay alert for 1 or two funky turns, however.)
If you take the shorter ride, we'll stop at the Vienna Red Caboose for our usual brown bag picnic/snack. Vienna also offers numerous dining options, including the Caboose Tavern, right off the trail.

Riding out to the historic town of Herndon? Stop at the Herndon Caboose, and have lunch or a snack. You can also check out the Green Lizard Cycling & Coffee shop, or grab something at the bakery, or the pizzeria in town.

One optional stop, which is very popular with E-Bike Lovers, is a detour to Southblock, a smoothie and acai bowl joint off Maple Ave in Vienna.

Please charge your batteries. The ride is mostly flat, but there are a few hills along the way. Unassisted bikes are most welcome.
Bring snacks, lunch, and plenty of water. Check weather and dress appropriately. Consider bringing a lock if you plan to visit a shop or restaurant.
As always, this event is self-directed. Consider downloading the Ride with GPS route and app to maintain your independence. The group stops a few times for slower riders to catch up. The distance will be 17 miles or longer/shorter any time you are fully satisfied with biking for the day.
Please be careful on the road crossings since there are several small ones and a few busier ones. Gallows Road, for example, can be busy but it does have a traffic light to help you cross.
For the E-Bike Lovers group to be successful, we need to grow our membership carefully. Please feel free to invite other E-Bike lovers spread the word, and let’s have fun! As usual, non-assisted bikers are most welcome
