Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms® is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness and awareness into action. Wherever the 5 Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, the change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego's hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge walking, rock-star part of ourselves that yearns to be free.
Creativity. Connection. Community.
The 5Rhythms Wave® is simple and yet profound; giving us an opportunity to simply dance whilst uncovering and discovering the layers and depths of our innermost selves through our dance.
Anyone can dance the 5Rhythms®, it just requires a beating heart and a willingness to move.
What you can expect from a 2 hour class:
We generally begin the class with a warm up, spending time moving how ever you want; stretching, breathing and dancing in a way that feels good for you, in the moment.
Then, you will most probably be guided through a Wave, which is dancing the 5Rhythms® in the same specific order, (flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness).
Sometimes you will be dancing on your own, and there may also be occasions where you will be invited to dance with a partner or a small group.
There are no steps to learn and you can't get it wrong. You're invited to explore in your own way the 5Rhythms® and how they want to move and be expressed through your body. You do not need any experience in dance - only a desire to move your body and a willingness to explore.
What to bring:
Wear loose, comfortable clothing;
A refillable bottle of water;
We dance barefoot or with dance shoes (no outdoor shoes);
A willingness to move and to be curious.
Cost: £15/£12
Pay on the door with cash or card.
I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.
With love,
Irem
