How do woodpeckers climb up and down trees so well? What is the largest woodpecker species in PA? Join us for a moderately paced ~3 mile towpath walk to listen & look for several different woodpecker species and learn about these unique birds.
After meeting at the park office, we will walk north along the towpath towards Homstead General Store. At Homestead, we will take a short break to grab a coffee or snack before heading back to the park office.
Please bring water, wear sturdy shoes & bring binoculars if you have them. About 10 pairs of loaner binoculars will be available to borrow.
Program will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather or hazardous driving/trail conditions.

- First Day Hike at Beltzville State ParkBeltzville State Park, Lehighton, PA
Join the Friends of Beltzville and park staff as we hike from the Beltzville State Park Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC) to the tower on top of the dam, culminating in a scenic view of Beltzville Lake.
This is a dog friendly hike, and well-behaved pets on a leash are welcome to attend. This hike is approximately 3.5 miles in length, so plan accordingly, bring plenty of water, and wear warm layers and comfortable footwear. This easy hike has durable gravel, grass, and dirt surfaces.
The Friends Group will also be holding a Children's Candy Cane Hunt prior to the program, starting at 12:30pm. Sign-ins will be held near the playground field by Parking Lot B, near the Environmental Interpretive Center. This is a free event, although donations are greatly appreciated to support future events and enrich our community offerings! We'll be meeting at the Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC) for the hike. Please note that limited parking is available at the EIC. Additional parking is available in Parking Lot C, near the beach, or Parking Lot B.
