Enjoy a visit to The Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills, IL for an afternoon filled with holiday cheer. The Sanfilippo “Place de la Musique” is a private museum that contains the largest collection of restored automatic musical instruments in the world, including music boxes & phonographs, coin-operated pianos, violin machines, photoplayers, American and European orchestrions, dance organs, fairground band organs and calliopes. The musical center piece in the building located in the Music Theatre in an auditorium specially built for this instrument is the world’s largest theatre pipe organ: an 80 rank, 8,000 pipe, 1927 Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. We will enjoy a 90-minute Christmas Concert while seated in the 350-seat balcony in the Music Theatre with sounds played on this magnificent pipe organ.
After the concert we will visit the carousel building.
The carousel building, completed in 1997, is the home of the most complete example of a European salon carousel in existence - the 'Eden Palais' (or Eden Palace), built in 1890. The salon carousel was more than just an amusement ride - it was a self-contained entertainment palace that included stages for live performers, several bars, booths for perimeter seating, and music. The whole affair was lighted by hundreds of light bulbs, and was undoubtedly one of the first places that patrons experienced electric lighting when it was new.
