What we’re about

Welcome to Arnhem Hiking!

The main purpose of this group is meeting new people, making new friends, having a great time, relaxing and enjoying nature. The purpose is not to set new record speeds, trail running through the forest. So do not hesitate to bring a camera, something to eat or drink, or whatever you like to make the experience better.

If people are also interested in different kind of meetings, like going out for a movie, going out for a drink or grab a bite to eat, let me know. This can be more than just a hiking group! If you think of other activities, also let me know. The more ideas the better!

Hikes will mainly be in and around the Veluwe. Meetups will take place on a weekly basis. Most hikes will be around 10 to 15km. Future hikes can be through out the Netherlands and are not limited to the Veluwe.

Join us if you are a nature lover, who likes to go on hikes together and is excited to meet new people.

Everyone is welcome!

Some common questions:

I am on the waiting list. What happens now?
Events are usually limited to 14-16 people. If you sign up, when the going list is full, you will end up on the waiting list. When people on the going list cancel and the group falls below this threshold, people from the waiting list will automatically be added to the going list.

I want to join the hike, but I am unable to sign up. How is this possible?
RSVPs are closed the day before the event, to prevent people on the waiting list to automatically be moved to the going list. Not closing the RSVPs, a day before the event, has led to many no-shows in the past. This is due to the fact that people are not notified by Meetup, when it happens and do not check Meetup regularly to notice they are on the going list.

Why are groups limited to 14-16 people?
Events are usually limited to keep the group managable. Another, more important reason, is that bigger groups feel less personal. People will be spread out, making it difficult for everyone to interact with each other. In smaller groups, people usually interact with everyone in the group. When the group gets bigger than 18 people, cliques will form, which is experienced as less enjoyable.

It is very common that people who join hikes with 12-14 attendees will also join future hikes. However, people joining hikes with more than 18 attendees, are often never seen again.

The event is limited to 16 people, but there are 20+ people on the going list. What is happening?
Hikers that are added to the going list, when the list is full, are added manually by the organiser. The manually added people are people that have attended past events and have always shown up.

Every event, there are a few people that will change their RSVP, close to the event date. So usually the hikes end up with the number of attendees that most people are comfortable with.
