Shelly Beach (Myall Lakes NP) Full Backpack 20km return, walkin only campsite.

Details

On this event we will do a full backpack overnight walk to Shelly Beach Campsite on the Myall Lake, a site that is only accessible by boat or on foot.

The plan to do this is as follows:

Day 1. Friday 15.11.2024. Arrive at Boomeri Campsite. YOU MUST COME VIA HAWKS NEST NOT BULAHDELAH AS THE BOMBAH POINT FERRY CLOSES AT 6PM. We will set up camp in a spacious campsite where sites are unallocated, have dinner and enjoy the sunset over The Broadwater. Boomeri has a composting toilet and water tank.

Day 2. Saturday 16.11.24. We pack up camp and setoff around 9.30AM, we follow the Old Gibber Road for 8km before taking Shelly Beach Trail to Shelly Beach. Despite being a remote campsite Shelly Beach is well appointed with a composting toilet and water tank. Sites are unallocated but are flat and set close to the Myall Lake. Again we will have a great view of the sunset over the lake and have the chance to swim in the warm water of the lake.

Day 3. Sunday 17.11.24. We return back to Boomeri, we should be back by midday so there is the chance to get the ferry across Bombah Point and have lunch at NRMA Myall Shores. We can then also go back via Bulahdelah where there is the option of climbing Mount Alum or visiting The Grandis-the tallest tree in NSW.

NB. It is possible to paddle into Shelly Beach from Violet Hill Camping Area. Those who prefer to do this (and are experienced paddlers) can leave from Violet Hill on Saturday morning.

For this walk you will need all food from Friday evening to lunchtime on Sunday. You will also need lightweight camping and cooking equipment and maybe wet weather gear, if so I will take a lightweight shelter for rain. There are water tanks at each campsite but the water will need to be purified, boiled or filtered. You will need to leave on Saturday with about two litres of water. It is also handy to take an ultralight chair as there is not much to sit on at Shelly Beach.

The camping fee for both sites is a total of $22 per person. I can take bookings for seven more people if you pay this to me at:

There will be a $30 gratuity payable in cash or PayID at the start of the event. PayID is 0439543695

There is also an $8 per day vehicle entry fee for Myall Lakes National Park.
