SpeedQuizzing is an interactive quiz game hosted from a laptop computer and played on smartphones and tablets.

Note: Please bring fully charged phones as we might need them in case we don’t have enough tablets 😊

Players take part in the same way they would a pen and paper quiz, but instead of pens and paper, each team uses a free app on their smart device, with the presenter reading questions from a laptop.

How is SpeedQuizzing different to a traditional pub quiz?

• Rather than having an unspecified amount of time to decide on an answer, teams are given a time limit during which they input an answer using the keypad on their smart device screen. This gives players considerably less time to attempt to cheat!
• Answers are submitted by a single tap on the device screen, e.g. first letter of the answer, multiple-choice (A, D etc), entering the year for a song, etc.
• The answer is revealed after each question, rather than all together at the end of a round or the entire quiz.
• Scoring is taken care of automatically by the laptop, with the leader-board being accessible throughout the event.
• Each team also gets to pick their own sound, from a range of songs, TV theme tunes and film soundtracks, which is played every time a team comes first.
• There are usually 4 rounds x 20 questions each.
• The quiz itself starts at 7:30pm and ends at 9:30pm.

RSVPs

• Please ensure you only RSVP if you can commit to coming, as this is a popular quiz and there are usually people on the waitlist.
• While illnesses and last-minute emergencies are understandable, if you RSVP and drop out on the day more than twice in a row, you will be moved to the ‘Not Going’ list for future quizzes, so that other people can attend. This is out of fairness to people who regularly attend the quiz.

This is simple and easy. Just a mid-week drinks at one of the nice bars we know Meetup peeps like. An opportunity to have a natter, catch up with people you've met or, especially if you're new, meet some peeps you haven't met before.

The All-Bar-One at New St Station is smart and relaxed and of course very easy to get to and from.

This is by the old Glass Doors of New St Station if you remember where they were. Another way to describe it is if you come in from Stephenson St to the main concourse and turn left and walk out of that entrance, All-Bar-One is just outside.

Meet at the tall tables by the bar - look for the bottles with a card on top.
You can turn up any time you like, and stay for as long as you like or for as short a time as you like. Do please just pop-in for half-an-hour if that's what you'd like to do.

Pub Quiz at The Wellington
Most Sundays, a pen and paper quiz at The Wellington Pub on Bennetts Hill in Birmingham over a relaxing ale (or cider or whatever).

Team up with other members, £1 entry.

Prizes will include two cash prizes and a gallon of real ale

If more than 6 people, we will need to split into two teams.

The pub doesn’t do food but you can bring your own food in and even order takeaway to be delivered!

Please read the description in full before attending and RSVP before the cut off point to secure your place. Unfortunately, I will not be able to cater for anyone who requests to attend after the RSVP closing time.

Come and join us for a friendly evening of bowling at Hollywood Bowl, Broadway Plaza, Birmingham.

I will be there from 7:15pm and the game will start at 7:30pm. Please can you arrive by 7:20pm to allow us enough time to check in and complete the games. We will need to start at 7:30pm prompt to ensure we have plenty of time to complete the two games.

Price will be £8 for two games.

You will need to pay this when you RSVP. Please note that "Hollywood Bowling" use dynamic pricing system to charge for the games so some weeks the price will vary considerably and some weeks will be cheaper than others. RSVP will close at 5pm, three days before the event. Please note that I cannot add bowlers to the booking once RSVP has closed so please can you RSVP before the cut off time to ensure you have a space.

If you are feeling unwell in either the build up to the event or on the day itself please can you let me know. This includes if you are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, even if they are only very mild. It's very important you do this to ensure the event can be as safe as possible.

There are hand sanitizers in the venue.

There is free parking at Broadway Plaza for up to 3 hours. Nearest train station is Five ways which is about a 5-10 minute walk away. Please note the bowling alley is just outside the "clean air zone".

Please can you wear your own shoes that you feel comfortable to bowl in as the bowling alley no longer provide shoes.

If you can no longer make it please can you update your RSVP and or let me know that you are no longer coming, to save us waiting unnecessarily for you. Please keep in mind that refunds can only be given should the event be rescheduled or cancelled.

On the last Wednesday of every month, Stoo (the quizmaster from Tuesday’s speed quiz) brings loads of board games to The Queen’s Head.

Only £2 per person to play for the whole night and all proceeds are donated to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Stoo will be on hand to explain the rules of games.

Thursday Night Nov 28th is the opening night of the Camra Winter Ales festival and the last in the calendar locally before Christmas takes over.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A CAMRA MEMBER TO ATTEND although Camra members do get more beer tokens.
There are usually close to 100 beers and a selection of ciders. Other alcoholic drinks are available. There is usually free cordial for designated drivers. Please leave the car at home if drinking, Dudley is accessible with a range of bus options across most of the West Midlands.
The beers often have a festive theme and many are higher ABV and rich and flavoursome stouts and porters, although more mainstream beers will also be available. If you just drink Carling however this event is not for you sorry!

This place has been recommended to me to give a try from a couple of people now so thought I'd finally make plans to go!
It was called Heidi's bar, but been told and it's showing online that it's been renamed so it's now Barbara's Bier Haus on Broad Street that you'd be looking for!

I plan to get there and find a table or two and then look out for people who will be joining me, so please RSVP if intending to come along so I know who to keep an eye out for!

It's happy hour and half price drinks until 10pm so it should be an evening of cheap drinks to enjoy and good conversations with new and familiar people if you fancy a cheap evening out mingling with other people and letting your hair down.

I've set the time till 11pm incase anyone wanted to stay out a bit longer after happy hour finishes, but anyone can pop along and leave when they feel ready too and stay for as little or long as they want!
