First meeting for this group!!! Open discussion and reading

This will be the first meetup for this group that was newly formed in November 2024. I look forward to meeting you and learning and talking about our shared interest in Secular Buddhism.

I will bring the book “After Buddhism” by Stephen Batchelor, which describes his perspective on secular Buddhism, which has a focus on the here and now, and tries to put forth what he thinks the Buddha’s philosophy was before things were added to it from other traditions, etc. We can take turns reading the book and have open discussion. We can also talk about the meetup itself - for example what interests folks in this topic, how frequently should the meetups happen, what the format could look like, etc. I’m thinking if we empower the group to make its own decisions that will help us to generate ideas and come to concensus. But I’ll also help lead the group to provide structure.

We’ll meet in the basement of the West Somerville library, which is close to stores for snacks, and is close to the Davis T stop.
