Details

Dāna or Daana is generosity or giving, a form of alms. In hinduism, buddhism (and jainism it is the practice of cultivating generosity. Ultimately, the practice culminates in one of the perfections : the perfection of giving. This can be characterized by unattached and unconditional generosity, giving and letting go.

Bodhinyana monastery is nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Darling Range, near the small town of Serpentine, Western Australia. The monastery is home to around twenty monks, residing in huts scattered over 242 acres. See link for further info https://bswa.org/location/bodhinyana-monastery/

Every day the community of monks come out of their huts to take the single meal for that day. The monks can only consume what is offered to them. Lay supporters come together at 10:30am to offer the meal to the monks. This tradition originated as a result of Buddha’s instructions to the monks and has survived for over 2500 years. Everyone is welcome to come to the monastery. Feel free to bring a plate to offer to the monks and share with others.

This event is specially recommended for families with children and the tranquil setting is a great place to socialise with other Dharma Friends.

We will be at the monastery from 10.30am and we will be happy to provide guidance. After the meal around 11.45am, the senior monks will be available for group discussion and to answer questions. Please RSVP if you would like to attend this visit.
