WHAT WE ARE ABOUT
This Meetup is for people who enjoy improving their fitness, walking and other active adventures in a friendly and welcoming environment. Our organisers and Group Owner are volunteers who give of their time freely. The co-organisers act as a collective, consulting on decisions that effect the group.
Adventures may include cycling, dining, golfing, travel interstate for walks further afield, to name a few. Our activities may be held locally or interstate and can involve overnight stays.
Please note you should be able to walk 5 kms at a moderate pace and be able to climb hills should the walk include climbs.
Some walks will have been researched but not actually undertaken by the organiser. These walks are called “exploratory” or “discovery” walks; this means you can expect the unexpected e.g. crossing fences and/or creeks.
We also run non-walking events. These may include: dining, a social event to improve the members’ knowledge and/or skills; discussing future activities; sharing experiences and types of equipment, etc.
Walk organisers will include the attendee limit for a walk or activity. When an activity is full, a WAITLIST is automatically created.
LEADERS AND HOSTS
If you would like to assist in organising, hosting a walk or another event, or becoming an organiser, please contact one of the Leadership Team who can help you with this. If you would like to run an event you’ll want to provide some basic details on: the event title, description, date, time required, the meeting point etc.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEMBERS
RSVPs: All RSVPs and cancellations should be finalised 24 hours before the event. Only in extenuating circumstances will cancellations be permitted e.g. car breakdown. Under these circumstances you will need to contact the leader by phone if possible as Meetup messaging doesn’t always work in “real time.”
NOT GOING: If you can’t attend a walk for which you have RSVP’d, you need to change your RSVP to “NOT GOING” 24 hours prior to the commencement of the event. This will allow people from the WAITLIST to RSVP and to participate.
NO SHOWS: If you don’t turn up to an event without changing your RSVP 24 hours before the event and don’t contact the organiser, you are deemed a “No Show”. If you are a “No Show” for 3 consecutive times, you may be removed from the group.
GUESTS: We welcome guests. If you bring a guest who is unlikely to join us again, add him/her as a guest. However, we ask that regular attendees become members including couples; each person should become a member in their own right.
ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE TIMES: Members are asked to arrive no less than ten minutes before the scheduled time, as we like to leave on time. If you are not there at the scheduled time, we may start the event without you.
MONEY: Most of our events are free. Where there is an event that includes accommodation, meals, bookings or travel, it is expected that members will pay for themselves. Where carpooling is involved it is customary to contribute to your driver’s petrol expenses. On longer journeys costs to share include i.e. petrol, tolls, and vehicle running costs. Vehicle running costs are calculated at $0.50 per kilometre and then divided by the number of passengers in that car.
PUBLIC LIABILITY AND INSURANCE: As a member of Meetup you agree to its Terms of Service, which are located at: https://help.meetup.com/hc/en-us/articles/3...;As such, the group has no insurance for members or guests. You will see a reminder of this fact at the end of event posts which states: By RSVPing Yes to any event(s), and attending any event(s), you acknowledge and accept that no public liability insurance covers this event and you indemnify the Group, its leaders, those assisting the organising and those participating in the activity against any injury or loss you may sustain or cause to others through your participation in the event, and you agree to the terms of the "What We Are About" page.
FEEDBACK: Each organiser welcomes your feedback, whether positive or negative, to improve our walks and activities. Ideally we encourage any feedback to be conveyed directly to the person concerned, in private and as early as possible.
CONFLICT RESOLUTION: In the unlikely event of a dispute, the parties involved should resolve matters as quickly as possible. If it isn’t resolved, it should be referred to the relevant organiser/host. Should this process not resolve the conflict, the organiser/host will raise the matter with the Group Owner for resolution.
