What we’re about
The Charlotte Virtual and Augmented Reality Meetup brings together like-minded individuals that see the potential of the emerging Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality industry. All levels of interest are welcome. Whether you are a developer, an enthusiast, or just want to try out VR for yourself, we encourage you to participate in the VR/AR movement. This participation will involve experiencing the latest available in VR technology and discussing the future of VR and its many applications. VR is currently becoming more well-known to the general public through the introduction of HMD's created by brands such as Oculus, Samsung, Google and HTC. These HMD's largely focus on the entertainment aspect of virtual reality. However, the technology has many more practical, everyday uses. It will continue to evolve and transform various fields, such as healthcare, education, and communications, to name a few. We believe this will be the platform of the future and it is only in its infancy. To our knowledge, there is not a significant amount of awareness in the Charlotte, NC area in regards to VR and AR. We would like to change that by creating a network of enthusiasts in this region to share ideas and enhance this experience.
Welcome to our Women in XR session! We're thrilled to bring together professionals from across North Carolina to explore the latest advancements in Virtual and Augmented Reality. Today, we shine a spotlight on the incredible women who are leading the charge in this exciting field.
We are honored to have Dr. Sharon Jones from the Dottie Rose Foundation as our speaker. She will be discussing the challenges and solutions for integrating Virtual and Augmented Reality into classrooms. Learn more about her impactful work at Home - Dottie Rose Foundation
Our Women in XR panel will cover a wide range of topics. If time allows, we'll also have a Q&A session to address your questions. Our panelists are:
Host: Christi Fenison from Cause and Christi
Dr. Sharon Jones - Dottie Rose Foundation
Beth Caruso: UNC Charlotte Visualization Center
Bebette Ryan: Stride, Inc
Tylar Nicklis: Bodyswaps, Inc
We will have several headsets available for demos, and Bodyswaps will showcase their soft skills training experience. And if that wasn't enough, we will have pizza and drinks.
Our session is on Wednesday, Nov 20th from 6-8 Pm at the UNC Charlotte Library.
Location: Area 49 Visualization Lab, Atkins Library, UNC Charlotte. (The second floor in the library).
The parking deck (see directions below) is a pay lot. We have a limited number of free parking vouchers. Please see me (Steven) or Beth for a voucher.
Atkins Library is #4 on the map, and you can park in Cone Deck 2, which has a visitor lot. Come up to the second floor, where you’ll see the Area 49 Desk. If using Google Maps, type in “Cone Deck 2.” You’ll enter on the side between the parking deck and the Cone building, not on the side that has the surface parking lot. For detailed information, see Atkins Library’s Directions & Parking Information.
