What we’re about
For people interested in finding fellow surfers with an interest in day trips to the Bay Area/Santa Cruz, and week plus trips to places like Costa Rica. I’m starting this group because it’s difficult to find middle aged people with an enthusiasm for surf travel in a place like Davis/Sac. The goal is to find people that are interested in, and able to, head out for Central America a few times a year, but anyone is welcome.

Heading for the "Wall" aka Punta Rosarito (Google Maps), the southern most of the seven sisters. I was there in January 2023, and a group of us went for 2024. Water should be in the low-mid 60's with air temps topping out around 70. Overnight lows around 50. The Wall is a pretty exposed break and picks up most north swell. the bottom is cobble and sand, suitable for most ability levels... as the wave wraps further around the point it gets progressively smaller.
Camping is "unimproved" (welcome to Baja) all water and food needs to be caried in, there are not even pit toilets. the area can be windy, but that is not the norm for January. The camp sites have rock walls that have been built up over the years as wind protection. better safe than sorry though so plan your camp stuff as if there will be at least one windy day.
This is just under a 2,000-mile round trip, The route crosses the border at Calexico/Mexicali heads south down Mex 5 along the gulf of California, then south along Mex 1. the Wall itself is the closest of the seven sisters to the highway, its only about 30 minutes on dirt roads once you leave pavement. Any vehicle with reasonable ground clearance can get in and out, but four-wheel drive is preferable. If the wall is crazy big, we might head north an hour to the area around El Cordon (which would require four-wheel drive).
we normally break the cost up by carpool. Assuming 2 people per car it will be anywhere from about $350 - $650 per head for camping, gas, Mexican-insurance, etc. The variability is mostly down to if/how we spend nights in transit. Your food would be in addition to that.
Travel Plan:
specific departure and return time are TBD, but probably close to what is listed in the event time information:
* December 27 and 28: Drive south, possibly stopping for the night in San Diego, Mexicali, or camping near Calexico.
* December 29 - January 3: Surf, yoga, and fun in the warmth of central Baja
* January 3 and 4: return drive north.
* Not a bad idea to carry an extra gallon or two of gas.
* Note that you need a passport to get the FMN tourist card when entering Mexico and for returning to the United States.
Please RSVP ASAP, but no later than thanksgiving, so we can figure out carpools and in route logging. We need at least four people to make the trip viable.
