What we’re about
Hi, and welcome to our Meetup page!
The Bay Area's East Bay Gay Men's Book Club is for gay, bi, and queer men age 18+ who are interested in reading quality gay literature, and who live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have been meeting in the East Bay since 2017, reading a different gay book each month.
Our reading list has included many classics of the gay canon, as well as a number of exciting new titles, including books on Oprah's book club list, and on President Obama's summer reading list. Our only requirement for a book is that the book be by a gay author, or have a gay theme. Occasionally, we have also read outstanding lesbian-themed books, and we are always looking for new book suggestions. Recently, we have been reading many more books by and about racial and ethnic minorities -- Asian, Hispanic, African or African-American -- and economic minorities, those gay stories that we always knew existed but that never had a chance to be told.
We generally meet at a private home in Berkeley, near BART. We are always looking for new venues, and for anyone willing to host us in the East Bay, or even in San Francisco, near a BART station.
And, of course, we want to know what you want to read. Our books are chosen democratically -- we vote on new book choices several times per year, with our books to be read chosen by our attendees.
Please join us for a good gay read!
