What we’re about
Is this the year you finally join a Book Club!? Are you an avid reader keen on meeting like-minded people and having interesting conversations over a book and a drink? Are you looking for ways to start reading more?
Are you looking to broaden your horizons - to try out new authors and/or genres - to find great books that you might not otherwise have found?
Or are you new to Sydney and looking to socialise with some new friends over this month’s book? If your answer is yes to one of these questions, then this group is for you!
What we do
We meet once a month somewhere in Eastern Suburbs. It’s relaxed, it’s fun and it’s quiet enough for us to hear each other!
We share our thoughts about the month’s book. What did we love, what didn’t we love, what did we learn, why did that character do that!? What would we have done? Don’t worry if you haven’t finished the book - it happens to us all. Come along anyway and join in the discussion. Be aware that there will be spoilers. Once we've finished with the book, we also share our stories and solve (*) the world’s problems.
What we read
We read pretty widely - and that's part of the point! Discover new authors and even genres that wouldn't be your normal 'go-to's. Books we've read recently include Elizabeth Strout's 'Olive Kitteridge', 'Sweet Tooth' by Iain McEwan, 'Sorrow and Bliss' by Meg Mason and 'The Promise' by Damon Galgut.
During every book club, we choose the book for a future book club. Bring your book suggestions and be prepared for a lively discussion. We do a vote for the subsequent month's book, usually over the weekend after a Meetup.
*** Please note - due to the way that Meetup works, we are limiting this group to 50 people. Inactive members will be removed. There is a waiting list ***
