What we’re about
MONTHLY GATHERING! We meet monthly to enjoy food that is generally focused on different cuisines of the world. Some months, we also target special and regional American foods. The club has one official meal per month, and members can volunteer to host others as well.
INTERNATIONAL HOLIDAYS! We enjoy learning about the history and customs that surround international holidays and cuisine. We discover entertainment and activities for these newly-discovered holidays that may be new to many Americans. For example, have you ever enjoyed the Oriental New Year's holiday by watching a live performance of authentic Lion Dancing. Or would you like to learn to make sushi on the major Japanese holiday of Hinamatsuri - Girls' Day (The Doll Festival)! We'll also participate in a French Holiday that few Americans have ever heard of!
WE ALSO ENJOY UNIQUE AMERICAN SPECIALTIES! Some months, we share unique or regional American food. For example, we might have a real Kentucky Derby party in the future, with genuine Derby specialities, like Burgoo, Benedictine, and Derby Pie.
WE LEARN ABOUT THE FOODS THAT WE ARE TASTING! We learn the history and cultural customs that surround the food that we are enjoying each month.
ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES AT EACH MEAL! There is an entertainment activity at each meal – optional to do it, of course. These include trivia games, crafts, dancing, or watching a special live show. Participation in the games is optional, of course, and they are just for fun - no losers - everyone wins. Trivia is always a great activity because it makes it easier to have conversations with new friends when you have something specific to talk about. Of course, friendship is the main goal of this club.
FUTURE EVENTS ARE PLANNED BY THOSE ATTENDING LUNCHES. The first monthly meals have been planned. At each meeting, those attending will make future suggestions and discuss preferences for later meals.
