Please also consider the volunteer opportunities at Feeding Hands and watch the 10 minute video below to learn more about this amazing organization.Lois (founder of the Feeding Hands foodbank) asked me to tell my story, so here goes:
I know Lois from a local church (Zarephath Christian Church) where my wife Mercedes helped Lois with translating and general help at the church pantry.
One day Lois was leaving a store as I was walking in. We said hello and Lois got to the point and asked me if I would consider driving for the Feeding Hands foodbank (one of my jobs with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority was as a truck driver and I have a commercial license). Anyway, I also got to the point and said no, thanks, no time, good luck with everything. We amicably said goodbye and that was the end of it, so I thought. However, for the next 2 to 3 weeks whenever I got up at night to use the bathroom all I could think about was Lois' request. Sometimes I would wake up (maybe around 2am) not for the bathroom but just because Lois' request woke me up. Christians would call this a "nudging" or "prompting" of the Holy Spirit. It certainly felt I was to have no peace unless I got on-board with Feeding Hands.
It is now 6 years later and I'm still on-board with Feeding Hands. You can search yourself for the benefits of volunteering; suffice it to say I'll be volunteering as long as I'm able.
