Our relatively easy and flat Monday Night walks explore the city and surrounds.

Tonight we start at the Edward and Alice Street entrance to the Brisbane City Botanic gardens and criss-cross the river via five of the cities bridges. Our moderately paced walk is about 7 km so allow two hours.

We meet just inside the entrance gate at 5.20 pm for a 5.30 start - all levels of walkers are welcome. Please be punctual so we can start on time.

We walk through the Botanic Gardens and the QUT campus before crossing the Goodwill Bridge to South Bank where we can check out the Epicurious Garden and see how the edible garden is going. oWe keep walking up to the Go Between Bridge where we cross over to the city side where we walk through the city and back on to the Kurilpa Bridge. We cross the river again and walk along the South Bank past GOMA and the museum before crossing back into the city via Neville Bonner Bridge. Dinner is optional so you are welcome to join us for a meal after the walk.

Our dinner venue tonight will be in the CBD venue to be decided on the night.

Share paths
Much of our walk is on shared paths, so please only walk 2 abreast and stay on the pedestrian side of the walkways. Take care when crossing roads and walkways and keep an eye out for eager cyclists and scooters.

What to bring:
Bring a light backpack, good walking shoes or hiking boots, a light raincoat if the forecast is for rain, water, your translink card, money for dinner, a and a big smile.
Two dollars donation to help to cover the costs of running the group , thank you for your support.

Important:
Please rsvp if you are genuinely interested in this walk and adjust your rsvp two days in advance if you realise you can no longer can attend. We walk as a group all the time, if you need to move out from the group please inform the Organisers.
If you would like to bring friends, ask them to join the Group so they can be nominated for all the interesting activities the group has to offer and they can have all the necessary information.

Directions:
The best way to enter town is by train; Central Station is the most strategic stop, just walk down to the end of Edward Street towards the City Botanic Garden, where Edward Street meets Alice Street.

You can also catch a bus into the city.

After 4.00 pm Monday to Friday the King George Square carpark charges a night rate of $10 for up to 4 hours and $15 after this till midnight. Entry is via Roma Street or Adelaide Street.

The Goodwill Bridge was opened on 21 October 2001 and takes its name from the Goodwill Games, which were held in Brisbane that year. It is just under 500 metres long.

The Go Between Bridge is a four-lane bridge with dedicated pedestrian and cycle pathways. It is a three span, twin concrete box girder structure built using balanced cantilever construction. The main bridge span is 117 metres long. A pedestrian pathway is located on the eastern (city) side of the bridge and a cycleway on the western (Toowong) side.

The Kurilpa Bridge is considered an engineering marvel! The bridge is a multi-mast, cable-stay structure based on principles of tensegrity, a first in city bridge construction. Kurilpa Bridge: is designed to represent the ships that once sailed into the Brisbane River in the city's infancy.

The Neville Bonner Bridge is our newest foot bridge.

JAMES TURRELL PERMANENT EXHIBITION AT GOMA
As the sky shifts to dusk, James Turrell’s Night Life illuminates the Gallery of Modern Art from within. Through shifts in tempo, hue and intensity of colour, the artist invites us to consider how we are affected by light. A decade after the opening of GOMA, this dynamic work realises the architects’ vision of animating the building’s facade at night.
