Join us a for a chat about George Eliot's masterpiece, Middlemarch! We're posting this event a few months in advance because Middlemarch is quite lengthy, so give yourself plenty of time to read it :) For any audiobook fans, there is a wonderful version narrated by Juliet Stevenson.
Some things to consider as you read:
--What are the book's major themes?
--Choose a character and think about what purpose that character serves, in advancing the plot, helping us understand other characters, etc. (especially important for unlikeable and/or side characters).
--George Eliot is also considered a philosopher. What does Middlemarch tell us about how she viewed humanity? And religion? (or anything else, for that matter!)
--Which characters do you find admirable, and why? Are there any characters that have no redeeming qualities?
Bring your opinions, thoughts, feelings (negative or positive!) and ...cash! We've had trouble getting the checks split at HK, so we've discovered that having everyone pay cash for their meal is the simplest way to go.
