We will meet art the small tables (all pushed together) at the basement of 5 Elements Espresso Bar a five- to ten-minute walk from Bay Station at 131 Avenue Rd, Toronto. The group moderator will greet attendees and begin the meeting at 1pm sharp, start a round of introductions, and readings will follow with a ten-minute break at around 2.30. Each reader will be allowed approx. 30 minutes to read their piece and receive a round of “hot takes.”
- Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Though we have only Ten RSVP slots, there is seating available for another ten, give or take the number of non-participating patrons of the venue. Even if you didn't manage to RSVP, come join us. We'll fit you in somehow.
- Confirm in the DISCUSSION or COMMENTS field if you will be bringing material to read.
- Print copies sufficient for the number of members who RSVP (as a rule, printing 40% more copies than the RSVPs works well)
- Print at 1.5 or 2 line spacing to allow peers room to make handwritten notes.
- Read up to 2,000 words from a piece of fiction or drama.
- Listen to peers' work and, if you have feedback, write it and verbally share it.
- ATTENDANCE JUST TO LISTEN AND/OR OFFER FEEDBACK IS MOST WELCOME.
Though never required, members are encouraged to provide written feedback on their handout of the piece and take a turn giving a verbal “hot take” after the reader has finished reading their work aloud.
The moderator will maintain the Code of Respect, time each reading, announce the break, and convene and reconvene the meeting after the break.
There will be time for 5-6 readers. Readers will take turns by a random selection with anyone we don't get to that session going "on deck" to read first at the very next session.
