Northern Virginia Volksmarchers

Walk along the scenic Potomac River Waterfront, Old Town Alexandria and several parks. The 6km trail is a guided group walk. Trails featured are 6 or 10 km (3.7 or 6.2 miles). Both have limited elevation gain. The trails cross a half-mile pedestrian bridge over Great Hunting Creek. 10 km walkers will also see the memorial in the Contrabands and Freedman Cemetery, the burial place for 1,800 African Americans who fled to Alexandria during the Civil War.
The walk is $2 for guests to defray expenses for our sport and $4 for AVA walk credit. Please bring correct change in cash. We featured curated walks led by experienced members. Dogs and children are welcome but those under 18 must have a guardian present. Arrive by 9:45 am to register so we can leave by 10:00 am. In Old Town Alexandria we can have a snack or lunch. Join us December 7th and 8th for our Annual Holiday Extravaganza featuring three self-guided walks-- two traditional walks and a Holiday-themed year round event! Trails vary from 5 to 12 km (3 to 7 miles) and are available both days. The Scottish Walk trail in Old Town Alexandria goes within a block of Saturday’s Scottish parade featuring more than 100 marching units. You will also pass many historic homes beautifully decorated. The DC Holiday Sights trail passes famous landmarks decorated for the holidays including Union Station, the Capitol, the Botanical Gardens, and the Ellipse and National Christmas Tree. The Walk Across the Potomac crosses the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to take advantage of all the Christmas Sights at National Harbor in MD. Any trail is certain to get you in the Holiday spirit! Parking is free (park on left side of hotel).
