Holiday Jam & 8th Anniversary Party! πŸŽ‰ 🎊πŸ₯‚(BYOB & Potluck)

Details

Let's swing out the year with a BIG 'OLE JAM PARTY!

You're cordially invited to a special extended Jam Session + Anniversary Celebration + Holiday Social Extravaganza! πŸ₯³πŸΎπŸ₯³

I started this group on December 7, 2016, as a total jazz newb hoping I'd be lucky to connect with a few people to learn jazz with. I pinch myself to see how we've grown into a thriving, robust, and vibrant jazz musicians community β€” THANK YOU for traveling this journey with me. πŸ™

Obviously, a BIG CELEBRATION is in order.

It's gonna be a festive FIVE HOURS of jazzing while hanging with friends, family, and musician friends over food and drinks.

Here's how it works:

β€’ BYOB & POTLUCK: Please bring something festive to eat and drink!

Plates, cups, forks, and napkins will be provided.

Food: "Cocktail Hour" grub that's fun and easy to eat with fingers would be best (e.g., cut cheese, cold cuts, mini pizzas, bruschetta, cruditΓ© with dip, pigs in a blanket, chicken wings/nuggets, mini cupcakes, holiday cookies, etc).

Drink: Something like a bottle of red wine or spirit that doesn't require ice or refrigeration would be ideal. If you bring beer or white/rosΓ© wine, make sure it's well-chilled so it stays cool longer. And, of course, if you don't partake, please bring a fun, non-boozy libation.

β€’ ATTENDANCE:
Come when you want and stay however long you wish.

Your family and friends are welcome at no extra charge. Just tell them to show up! πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸͺ©πŸ•Ί

If you're new to jazz and have been shy about jamming, this is a great chance to come for a vibe check and meet other players. And DO bring your instrument in case you want to play after some liquid courage! πŸ˜‰

β€’ EQUIPMENT: Like our regular jams at Michiko, a grand piano, drum kit, amps, mics, and music stands are provided. Just bring your axe (plus cables for guitarists and electric bassists).

β€’ PLAYER LIMIT: 8 players max on the bandstand, with no more than two guitars (you know the drill!)

β€’ TUNES: We'll take turns calling tunes.
Please pick familiar standards that are accessible for all levels so that everyone can relax and have fun playing.

β€’ JAM SESSION ETIQUETTE:
Although we take pride as the friendliest, most courteous jamming group ever, I'm still reminding everyone to be aware of letting all players have their fair share of the bandstand.

I suggest everyone play two tunes per turn, then take a break for refreshments and mingling while other players sit in until it's your turn again.

Solos: Depending on the number of players and the tune type/length, I suggest 1-2 choruses per solo to manage the time so we can keep moving and play more tunes.

That's about it. Leave any questions or comments below.

Looking forward to celebrating with you!

Love & Cheers,
Alice
