What we’re about
Join Outdoors Club around the New York City area. Visit interesting places and meet new people. Some activities are easy, and others difficult. Most are easily reached by public transportation.
ARE YOU A MEMBER? Joining this Meetup group does not make you an Outdoors Club member. Non-members pay one-day dues of $5 to attend an Outdoors Club event. By becoming an annual dues paying member, you won't have to pay $5 per event, you'll receive our semi-annual hike schedule in advance, be notified of Member-Only events not posted on Meetup and help pay for Outdoors Club expenses. https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/UA3VEE4S3MESA
RSVP COURTESY: We appreciate you being a considerate Outdoors Club community member. There are often more people wanting to attend than spots available. Sign up only if you intend to show up. If you have to cancel, please change your RSVP as early as possible to allow someone on the waitlist an opportunity attend.

See all- Shake It Off with a Hike to Sleepy HollowGrand Central Terminal, New York, NY
Manhattan
How to Find Us: Meet at the info desk (beneath The Clock) in the main concourse of Grand Central Terminal no later than 10:15 am. We will take the 10:23 am Hudson line Metro North train to Scarborough (60 minutes; $11.25 for adults; $7.50 for seniors). We’ll return on the 3:16 train from Philipse Manor (64 minutes, same prices).Details: Limited to 25 walkers. $5 for non-members of the Outdoors Club.
NOTE: We’ll hike about five miles from the Scarborough train station to Sleepy Hollow in Tarrytown via the beautiful Old Croton Aqueduct Trail. It’s an essentially flat walk except for the partly uphill one-mile section from the station to the trail. We’ll maintain a not-grueling pace of 25 mins per mile. In Sleepy Hollow, we can view the Old Dutch Church (the oldest house of worship in New York), a statue depicting the Headless Horseman, and the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (including the grave of author Washington Irving). There’s an option of touring Phillipsburg Manor, a 1750 plantation that recounts stories of 23 enslaved persons who lived and worked there. If you want to take this option, it’s recommended you buy tickets asap ($18 adults, $15 seniors) online at the manor’s site for the 2:30 pm tour. You could then take the 4:16 pm train from nearby Philipse Manor, arriving Grand Central 5:20 pm.
SPECIAL NOTE: I’ll be bringing my dog on this walk. She’s a friendly 4-year-old female Aussiedoodle who will cause no problems. But if you don’t like being in the presence of dogs, then please don’t sign up for this walk.

[email protected] - THANKSGIVING: OVER THE BRIDGE TO JAPAN!George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal, New York, NY
This holiday celebration is a moderately-paced walk of approximately seven historic miles with lovely views of the Palisades and surroundings. We will walk over the George Washington Bridge, stopping at historic sites with great photo opportunities with our last stop at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater, New Jersey where we can enjoy Japanese treats (or it is fine to bring your own). The marketplace is a treasure of Japanese artifacts and there is a large food court as well as a proper Japanese supermarket. No reservations are necessary.
Afterward there will be an optional walk (on your own) on the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway to Hoboken/Jersey City. Check out the route. There are buses back to both the George Washington Bridge Bus Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in front of the market. Check out the New Jersey Transit bus schedules.
Leader: Margo Moss [email protected] We will meet at 10:00 AM at the George Washington Bridge Bus Station (between Broadway and Fort Washington Avenue and West 178th and West 179th Streets) in the third floor waiting room where bathrooms and comfortable seating are available.
