What we’re about
Hi Everybody!
My name is Eich and I ran the Rhode Island Area meetup.com group Living with Depression, Anxiety & Emotional Instability Group (LwDA&EI) for over two years, very successfully and lovingly, and through a worldwide pandemic. I am branching out now to start my own meetup group with my motto of the last decade: "To truly listen and to genuinely care."
The purpose of the Rhode island Area Social and Support Group (RIASSG) is to provide a safe area for people who suffer from any emotional or psychological affliction (including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, nervousness, OCD, ADHD, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, etc.) to join similar people who also have issues and discuss our problems and most of all, heal and acquire better mental health and its skills both individually and as a community as a whole. I have always promoted an atmosphere of welcoming everybody who comes to my group, acceptance of all and every type of human beings as well as their individual issues and try to foster an environment where the group leader as well as members provide genuine and caring responses to others' situations and all feel welcome, included and never uncomfortable even if they have a challenging life situation.
You should join RIASSG if you are diagnosed with or otherwise suffer from any mental, emotional or psychological issue(s) but truly believe that you can improve your mental health situation and would benefit from a group of your peers who are also suffering from some psychological affliction and are willing to help each other get better in a warm, friendly and helpful environment that promotes self-worth, dignity, self-improvement and genuine concern for one another.
Meetings will take place probably three Sundays a month to start out for like an hour and a half in total and they are usually structured to include a check-in period where everybody goes around the room and introduces themselves and their respective issues; there hopefully will be a weekly question that will focus on mental health and a closing period (and a set of group guidelines will be presented at every meeting).
In the past, I have also had events like a Holiday party in December, a summer get=together like a cookout or outdoor gathering and maybe one group outing a year like to an arcade or something so members can gather in a less-structured environment and enjoy some good times outside of a meeting and all its structure. These have met with success and i will try to include these activities in RIASSG as well once we get going.
