What we’re about
What is Freethinking? Cambridge defines freethinking as "forming your own opinions and beliefs, especially about religion or politics, rather than just accepting what is officially or commonly believed and taught." This freethinking discussion group invites any topic under the sun.
The group is mediated by a facilitator and topics are decided on before the meeting or at the start of the meeting by the participants. We talk about 3-4 topics for 20 minutes each, and special care is taken to include diverse viewpoints, hearing from all participants and also taking care that the conversation is not dominated by big personality. We don't try to convince each other and debate. The intention is dialogue and discussion.
This is an active group, we usually have about 5-6 show up for every event, and its growing slowly. By summer we expect to have 10-15 showing up regularly. Don't be shy, come and join and bring an open-mind!
We also have a public FaceBook group (also called Rockland Freethinkers) if you prefer that platform.
