December 2024 Rust Melbourne Meetup
Details
Join us for the last Rust Melbourne Meetup for 2024 on Monday 16th December at the DEPT® office. Come along to witness 2 amazing talks this month!
Bridging the research-production chasm
Taking software from research to production comes with unique challenges, such as scaling experimental code for real-world workloads and addressing subtle differences between execution environments. In this talk, Amit Ziv-Kenet will share practical strategies, architectures, and implementation examples to overcome these obstacles, with a focus on integrating Rust and Python.
My first commercial Rust application: A data updater
Alan Perkins is new to Rust, but has extensive Python experience, and has developed some large data applications in python, including one that processed between 150 million and 1 billion records every day for 5 years. When he had an opportunity to write a simple middleware data conversion layer that took a new database rehydration script from an AWS S3 bucket, and updated a postgreSQL database several times per day, he decided to write it in Rust. Alan will describe the project and show some of the code design choices so the experienced Rustaceans can quietly chortle
As per usual, DEPT® will provide the location, snacks and drinks and ensignia will be sponsoring the pizza🍕
