Talks
🎤 Giving Life by Design: Navigating Blood Donation Services in the NHS - Sarah Key (NHS Blood and Transplant)
Take a guided tour of the NHS's life-saving blood donation service and how they're designed.
What motivates people to give blood and what do they struggle with along the way?
How do you design an efficient, enjoyable service within the clinical and financial constraints of working in the public sector?
Sarah will take you through her experience so far and share what she's learnt along the way.
🗣 About the speaker
Sarah is a Service Owner at NHS Blood and Transplant. She makes blood donation a satisfying process for the donors giving every day. This role is her first formal foray into service design. Previously, she worked as Lead Content Designer. She has been creating engaging content for not-for-profits for over 10 years.
She loves working in roles that help others. She's neurodiverse, living with dyslexia and dyscalculia. Writing bios about herself is one of her least favourite writing tasks.
🎤 Taking your design toolbox into leadership - Anna Leggett (The Guardian)
Stepping into a UX leadership role is an amazing opportunity, but it can feel a long way from the craft you have honed as a practitioner.
How do design and research skills equip you for leadership?
Anna reflects on how a research and design background can give you superpowers for having influence and creating the conditions for others to do great work.
🗣 About the speaker
Anna currently leads the User Research team at the Guardian, helping develop digital products that connect people around the world with liberal journalism and stories that matter.
She is a qualitative researcher with a background in ethnographic methods. Previous to joining the Guardian she worked for several boutique agencies. There she delivered research for tech, lifestyle and service organisations including Spotify, Meta and the British Red Cross, to help teams understand the people who use their products today and what will shape their future users' needs.
Whilst she is a relative newbie to Bristol having moved her in early 2023, she is excited to connect with the Design and Research community of the South West through Service Design Bristol!
