What we’re about
We get together on weekends to wander around San Francisco, sketching people and places, natural and urban. We usually sketch for 2-3 hours, then sit down in a cafe to share sketches and chat. Sometimes we join up with other sketching groups or do field trips outside the city. Everyone welcome.

It's on again! Montreal sketcher Marc Taro Holmes is inviting sketchers around the world to join him for the 9th annual #OneWeek100People challenge, March 3-9 2025.
Here's Marc's invitation:
"#OneWeek100People is a free annual event launched by myself and my sketching friend Liz Steel back in 2017. It's our fun activity where we try to sketch 100 people in a single week. That's roughly 20 a day if you like to have your weekends free.I'm a huge fan of Urban Sketching, in which the 'rules' are to draw from life. But I'm also allergic to rules in general; so I'm not going to fuss if you use photos, draw from a movie, your own imagination, or whatever it takes to hit 100 people in a week.
The goal is pure self-directed sketching-for-the-love. (Or the training, if you're out to master the skill as fast as possible.) If you just want to practice anatomy, let's go for it together. If you want to go experience your city first-hand, let's get out and sketch in the streets. You can read more about it on my event page."

This is a virtual event, so you don't need to meet in person. However, if you'd like to get together with some other people in a cafe or other public place, post your invitation with date/time/location in the comments section below.
Some online events where you can rapidly sketch a lot of faces live are Drawing is Free at Monday 9 AM and Pencils4Tea at Thursday 10 AM, where each pose is timed to a song. Free, all welcome.
PS - Marc is discontinuing the Facebook group, but you can still use the hashtag #OneWeek100People on your social media of choice.
Post some of your sketches on the SF Sketchers Photos page too! Check out some of our sketches from 2024, 2023 and 2022.– Sketch by Laurie Wigham
