"The revamped island has several new features such as a floating boardwalk, a coastal forest trail and a lagoon tidal pool where visitors can swim or snorkel. The blacktip reef shark, copperband butterflyfish and giant carpet anemone are some of the aquatic creatures that can be found in waters surrounding the marine park. Visitors who want a bird’s eye view of Big Sister’s Island can trek up the new Ocean Network Express Coastal Forest Trail. The 230m long trail will bring visitors through a coastal forest that will lead to a two-storey high hilltop view deck - the highest point of the island.
This will be a prime spot for birdwatchers who can keep an eye out for the critically endangered great-billed heron, spotted wood owl, and white-bellied sea eagle."

When the tide goes low at Big Sister's Island, we can see many other marine life at the shores, without having to snorkel or dive, i.e. clown fish, sea anemones, brittle starfish, sea cucumbers, worm cast, moon snails, nudibranchs. And if you are really lucky, you might just chance upon a very rare sighting of a baby reef shark - which we saw before it was closed.

Why Private Boats?
The public ferry is rather long & inconvenient for the time we prefer as it includes other stops like St. John’s Island and Kusu Island. This means a lot more time on the ferry than exploring the island! The last ferry is at 3 pm. But the low tide only starts at ~ 6 pm. We have to leave the island at 7 pm (closing time).
With enough pax, chartering private speedboats is only slightly higher than the ferry.
We have to pre-book & charter private speedboats which take only max 12 pax. The fee has increased post-COVID & a few times higher than those to St John & hence the higher cost.

We have limited slots, due to the capacity of the boat.
This event is suitable for people of all ages, who are reasonably physically fit, and able to climb a flight of steps.

The event fee of $ 28 is only for operational costs, organizing & planning, afternoon snacks, fuel for boiling water, free flow of coffee & tea, and Solar Panel charging.

This fee does not include any conveyance/transport cost which is collected on the actual day determined based on the final pax on a cost-sharing basis & paid directly to the transport operator.

►Raja Ampat: the islands regency in West Papua Province.
It ranks first in the world’s biodiversity ranking. The islands are biologically diverse both above and underwater. All islands present otherworldly scenery of steep, lush jungle-covered islands, serene white-sand beaches, treasured lagoons, and pellucid turquoise water, this is truly the place where words such as breath-taking, enchanting, magnificent, and majestic get their true physical meaning. It is home to many marine species not found anywhere else.

For underwater enthusiasts, Raja Ampat specially offers some of the world’s ultimate experiences. The territory covers 9.8 million acres of land and sea, home to 540 types of corals, > 1000 types of coral fish & 700 types of mollusks. This makes it the most diverse living library for the world's coral reef and underwater biota.

► Raja 1️⃣ Waigeo Island

The largest of the archipelago’s four main islands. It has a wild and jungly interior, which is still largely unexplored and inaccessible. There is a large variety of animal species that have made their homes in these jungles. The world-renowned crimson Bird-of-Paradise has opossums, snakes, tortoises, frilled and giant monitor lizards, plumed herons, and honeyeaters.

The water in this river is clear, a blue Crystal. It got famous and became a tourist destination in 2017. Not all parts of the river are blue but only in certain parts. Meanwhile, in the upstream part, the water is completely colourless. Enjoying the atmosphere in the upstream part of Kalibiru is very soothing. The mind becomes relaxed and fresh.

Snorkel & swim with sea creatures, float on Sand Island, hike up islands for breathtaking views, stay on homestay above the sea, wake up naturally with the cool sea breeze, and watch the sunset from your window. Enough?

►RAJA AMPAT
Located within the Bird’s Head Seascape, and at the heart of the Coral Triangle, Raja Ampat is one of the most marine biodiverse locations on earth. Encompassing around 4.6 million hectares of land and sea, of which over 2 million is Marine Protected Area, the archipelago is home to more than 1,600 species of fish, 75% of the world’s known coral species, 6 of the 7 known species of vulnerable to critically endangered sea turtles, and 17 known species of marine mammals.
The Coral Triangle is the heart of the world's coral reef biodiversity, making Raja Ampat quite possibly the richest coral reef ecosystem in the world. It is home to many marine species not found anywhere else.

Join us to hike & explore this exciting night adventure where scorpions 🦂 are 99.9 % easily spotted under UV. With normal powerful torchlight, you still have challenges spotting them as the forest gets pitch dark.

With UV, there's no need to hunt for them high and low,🦂 as they are active at night and the UV will easily show you, even from a few meters away! 😱. We had ever found 7 of them on a single tree. When a special UV frequency light is used, every creature that fluorescence suddenly appears everywhere in a different colour. ❨as shown in the above & latest pic below❩.

Common creatures sighted were wild boars, mouse-deer, various weird-looking types of 🕷️🕸️, bats, giant ants, termites & moths etc. Bonuses are 🐍, sambar deer etc. Glowing mushrooms & fireflies have been spotted on this trail - with sharp eyes. Other than 🦂, many plants, and fungi also fluorescence under UV like chlorophyll, lichens, carnivorous plants like pitchers etc.

Many arthropods (insects, spiders, and relatives) have a secret: they glow under ultraviolet light. Scorpions and some relatives produce a blue-green glow via fluorescence. Under ultraviolet light, molecules in their exoskeleton absorb and re-emit UV as visible light.

𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 is the production & emission of light by a living organism. It is a form of chemiluminescence. Bioluminescence occurs widely in marine vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as in some fungi, and microorganisms including some bioluminescent bacteria, and terrestrial arthropods such as fireflies.

The most famous bioluminescent species on land are glowworms and fireflies.
