Sunset Beach Walk to the Kindred Spirit Mailbox

Join us for a peaceful "get to know you" walk to the iconic Kindred Spirit Mailbox on Bird Island, one of Sunset Beach’s most cherished landmarks. Over the years, visitors have left messages—thoughts, wishes, and regrets—creating a sense of connection that continues to draw people from all over.
Fun Fact: The mailbox even inspired Nicholas Sparks’ 2018 novel *Every Breath*, where Sunset Beach and the mailbox play key roles.
We’ll take a serene walk from the 40th Street beach access to the Kindred Spirit Mailbox, where you can leave a note or simply take in the peaceful surroundings of Bird Island, one of the last undeveloped barrier islands in the region.
Meet on the beach at the 40th street access! Bring water, wear comfortable shoes and feel free to write a note in the journals inside the mailbox! The distance is a little over 2 miles round trip.
