What weโre about
Welcome to SocialLife ๐
The yellow heart emoji represents friendship; and that's exactly what we are about - meeting new people & making new friendships.
We have a team of experienced, welcoming hosts & we plan socials in popular venues.
Please click "see all" on the home-page (below). You will find a variety of socials from drinks nights, movies, Jazz afternoons, lunches, art trails, museum afternoons, LBGT Pride, plus themed events such as Oktoberfest, Halloween & festive events.
We understand people can often feel nervous, which is why all our events are organised by our experienced hosting team. Our aim is for SocialLife member's to have a good experience, so please ensure you have a good profile photo so we know who to look out for & we ask that you're courteous & respectful to fellow Socialiser's.
What to expect:
- Socials planned in popular venues, close to bus/ train routes,
- A clear meeting point/ description/ timing of the social & who the host is,
- Friendly & welcoming host/ members,
- On occasion we may publish a social event without a host (usually because it's not organised by us), but we've added it on the site for awareness,
- Any complaints or issues e.g. inappropriate messaging/ fall outs within the group, will be handled by the organiser & a fair/ objective/ factual approach will be taken,
- Any complaints or issues e.g. personal fallouts, outside of the group can be made to the organiser for awareness only. We do not get involved with anyone else's personal or private situations,
- SocialLife are supportive to other Meetup groups/ organisers & hosts. We do not get involved in harmful gossip or competitive behaviour,
What not to expect:
- Disruption - personal conflicts are to be kept off the group & we would encourage any issues to be discussed & hopefully resolved. If personal conflicts cannot be resolved, then we advise common sense is applied & people do not attend the same socials,
- We are a safe, inclusive group, therefore, bullying/ harmful gossip/ racism/ sexism/ lewd behaviour/ misogyny is not tolerated & the person will be removed,
- Cancellations - it's not often we cancel a social, however, if we do it's due to very low numbers/ an issue with the venue or severe weather,
- We are also not a professional support group e.g. counselling/ mental health conditions, nor are we a business, however, we can help you find an alternative group if required,
Ratings:
- Meetup have a ratings system to help organisers have visibility of member feedback,
- Meetup PROMPT members on how to rate the social. It's advisable you use this to rate fairly e.g. the social started on time/ welcoming host/ good description/ felt safe etc,
- Misleading ratings are - I was cold/ the beer was too expensive/ I was having a bad day, but you do a great job/ the bar was busy/ I couldn't find the venue (because the updates hadn't been read by the member),

Disclaimer (the serious bit!):
SocialLife ๐want everyone to have an enjoyable social and we aim to choose the best venues & locations. Attending our socials is at your own discretion & we advise that you read the social description/ meeting location/ time of the social meetup/ updated meetup comments & familiarise yourself with the host & the guest list. Many of our drinks socials will be hosted during set times e.g. 5pm till 9pm, so if you arrive later, please ensure you have read the comments in case the group have moved on. We are NOT responsible for the member's journey to the social, the member finding the venue, any purchases made by the member e.g. food, drinks, tickets. We do not tolerate racist, sexist, lewd, aggressive or bullying behaviour & if this happens we will remove you from the group. We also advise people not to bring personal conflict with others into the group as this can cause disruption. Any comments published that are discourteous to others or undermine the host will be deleted. We are NOT responsible for clashes of personality or differences of opinion and if this happens at the social we advise you to walk away & converse with someone else. Plus one's (guests) are welcome on the group, however it's important that people attending socials know who they are meeting, so we would ask that any guests DO join the group after attending at least two socials & upload a clear profile.
Please also be aware of personal safety, especially when leaving coats, bags, drinks unattended: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/spiking-factsheet/spiking-factsheet
Thanks and enjoy the socials!
