Video Affects is a night of talks and conversations about all things film. Organised by documentary filmmakers Jak Hutchcraft (Right Here, Right Now) and Jason Bick (20,000 Days on Earth), you can expect fun informal talks and Q&As by superfans, filmmakers, actors and crew. Dive into cult classics, weird theories, DIY filmmaking, unknown gems, tales from the movie set, Hollywood guilty pleasures, and much more.

Lush: A Far from Home Movie is a new tour film about ’90s shoegaze icons Lush. It was shot on Super-8 by bassist Phil King while the band were on tour from 1992-1996 and only recently put together as a short feature. Dedicated to drummer Chris Acland, whose death in 1996 would also be the end of the band (till their 2016 reunion), the film is streaming now on the Criterion Channel. ​

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Emma Anderson and Phil King from Lush. Phil is also the documentary's director. This Q&A will be hosted by James Endeacott.

The other guest speaker on the night is:
Kim Taylor-Foster - Film and TV critic, journalist, broadcaster, and author. She gave us a brilliant talk about her book 'Why We Love The Matrix' earlier in the year. Now she's back with something special for us.

Doors at 7pm, the event starts at 7.30pm.

Sound Affects is a night of talks about music and subcultures, how sound affects us and how music changes the world. Hearing from writers, musicians, artists, superfans, photographers, filmmakers and everyday music lovers, we dive into personal stories, esoteric bands, fan communities, punk, pop, social change and much more. It's organised and hosted by journalist and documentary filmmaker Jak Hutchcraft.

Guest speakers:
Jonathan Scott - Writer and record collector. His book 'The Vinyl Frontier' is about the making of a Golden Record that NASA fixed to the side of Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 in 1977. 'Into the Groove' is the story of recorded sound, from tin foil to vinyl.

Liz Ikamba - A British-Congolese (DRC) artist whose unique sound blends influences from across the African Diaspora—from Congolese folk and African rhythms, to dub-reggae, jazz, soul, and hip-hop—think Nina Simone, Sade, and Erykah Badu with a Congolese twist. Singing in English and Lingala, Liz weaves personal and ancestral stories of connection and longing, guiding listeners on a journey between the UK and DR Congo. Her interactive performances foster a sense of belonging in a shared, borderless musical community. Liz is also an experienced workshop facilitator and trainer, specialising in Trauma-informed, Creative Health and Inclusive Arts practice.

Caraline Brown - An author whose new book, Mrs Wilson's Children, tells the story of a legendary venue in Hull and the impact it had on her and so many others. Outside of writing, she's an award-winning PR expert.
