The Torne Mountain, Osio Rock, and Stone Living Room hike in Norvin Green State Forest is a 3-mile figure-8 loop with about 750’ of elevation up and down. It's a moderate hike, packed with fun scrambles, interesting scenery, and great views, that we'll take at a leisurely pace.

We will email the parking and hike details to those registered closer to the hike date.

After hitting the woods we quickly start our first climb of 300' to the top of Torne Mountain where we'll find rewarding views and, just off the trail, the renowned Stone Living Room.

The Stone Living Room, featured in the original Weird NJ book, is the stuff of legends. Why this Fred-Flintstone-esque gathering area was created, by whom, and how, remains a mystery. Legends include ancient civilizations, Native Americans, Boy Scouts, drunk teenagers, stoned hippies, or cult members who brought the stones, weighing hundreds of pounds, together to make couches, chairs, and tables giving them a place to be closer to the sky and far from authorities. Stories of spooky noises, eerie drafts of cold air, and forces invisibly pushing people abound. It's not a place you easily forget!

Continuing along the ridge we'll come across some large glacial erratics and more great views with NYC in the distance before we head down into the drainage between Torne Mountain and Osio Rock. We cross the drainage and head back up to Osio Rock with its amazing 270-degree view including the Wanaque Reserior down below. Once we get our fill we'll pass another great viewpoint and again descend to the drainage. We'll follow the fun scramble-ridden path on a constant ascent back until, near the end, we drop back down to the trailhead.
