What we’re about

🎵Welcome ukuladies & gentlepeople!🎵

Ukelele players/singers from all walks of life invited to join me and my Makala concert uke for songs, jams and some wholesome, good ol’ fashioned community ☺️

Meeting fortnightly, we’ll create some charming melodies in the picturesque surrounds of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens 🍁🍂🍄🌲🌳🌱

COST:
$3 Gold coin donation would be lovely (to cover the cost of meetup ☺️). It is priced as such because it is more of a creative experience than a ukulele lesson.

VIBE:
A combo of hangout, jam, playing songs, singing together, maybe even learn a chord or two.

STRUCTURE:
🎵The sessions go for 2 hours (weather depending), and are divided into 3 sections: chords, group and individual songs:-

🎙🎶 CHORDS: We will look at learning & practising different chords for approximately 15-20 minutes. Strumming can be practised at this time also.
🎙👥 GROUP: We will play and sing from a selection of well known songs as a group together.
🎙🗣 INDIVIDUAL: This is where everyone gets a turn to share their own cover version of a favourite song. You could choose from my selection, or bring in your own chords & lyrics! You can also choose some ‘backup players/singers’ from the group if you like or perform solo 🎵

Chords we’ll try throughout the sessions: A, C, D, F, G, A7, B7, C7, D7, E7, G7, Am, Bm, Cm, Dm, Em, Gm, A#m, Bb and many, many more!

GOALS:
No plans for performing together, just jamming. Worth keeping in mind that as we will be situated in the parklands we’ll be the teensiest bit public.

MUSIC PHILOSOPHY & ABOUT ME:
-I am not a professional musician, I just love to play/sing music.
-I am however, a visual artist, which I think informs my creative approach to music.
-I’m not as technically skilled as other musicians (meaning, I can’t teach you every chord ever, or the “exact” way to do every strum or technique - I’m not a music teacher per se)
-But, I do think I can create beautiful covers/versions and interpretations and that’s what I want this group to be about, and especially fostering a space to be creative!
-One of the things I’m interested in for example, is when musicians incorporate percussion via hand tapping on their instrument. I do my own versions of this.
-The point is, I like to experiment musically, and I celebrate people that do this.
-I don’t think there’s a “right” or a “wrong” way to do music, but you can still use styles, genres, tempos and techniques to get different effects.

HOUSE RULES:
***This group is inclusive to all who are kind & considerate to others ☺️***
🌲🌳🌵

  1. Be kind and encouraging to each other and boost confidence - it can be nerve wracking to play music/perform, so let’s be nice and use positive language to each other (e.g “That was great!” “I loved your cover/version of that song” “That was a hard chord but you nailed it!”)
  2. My group atmosphere is kind to other members - even when their creative style is different from yours or not your preferred style. Members must be kind, in order to foster a safe atmosphere. If this is not your approach in my group, then this is not the group for you.
  3. Ukuladelaide does *not* tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or bullying of any kind. If this is something you engage in, this is not the group for you.
  4. Be creative with your cover versions - and have fun!
