What we’re about
We've had a good run! We ate a lot of good food and developed several great recipes. But with many of our members finding themselves overcommitted, we've decided to put this group on hold. We would like to stay in contact with people who like the concept in case we are able to revive the group one day.
Some of my favorite memories: Mary's cheezcake and Joe's tofu curl soup. He also made a delicious creme pie for Pi Day. Caroline's "so sage" sausage is a winner. Zucchini fritters are now a regular feature at my house. Thanks to everyone who participated!
This is our original group statement:
Are you interested in learning more about plant-based eating, even if you're not vegan? Or are you vegan and interested in expanding cooking horizons? Do you like to tinker with recipes, or taste-test foods that others make? Maybe this group is for you!
Vegan Test Kitchen is now Vegan Test Kitchen (VTK) of Madison. For about a year we have been meeting monthly, on Saturdays, at a member's home in Fitchburg, sharing potluck meals that focus on a theme. Themes have included plant-based pizza, burgers, chili, mac 'n' "cheeze," and "cheezecake."
We believe that plant-based eating is the way of the future, necessary for the health of our planet and generally better for ourselves. We want to develop plant-based recipes for all to enjoy, enhancing our cooking skills in the process. And we believe that sharing food and ideas around in community improves well-being in every way.
As a final note, did you know that a benefit of plant-based eating is that nearly all scraps can be composted? For those who cannot, or don't want to compost outdoors, we recommend either of two subscription composting services in the Madison area, Curbside Composter (https://www.curbsidecomposter.com/) and Green Box (https://www.withgreenbox.com/).
