What we’re about
This is a group for over 50 (physically, certainly not mentally) folks to get together socially in a variety of venues. Everyone has a chance to suggest their favorite activity and have others join them. Everyone has a chance to participate in a new activity by joining what's suggested. Activities can be anything from golf, dinner, dancing, having a home BBQ, attending a concert, or board game night. Or, in other words, a chance for us "over 50" folks to make new friends.
This is not a dating group. We are a social group, just wanting to get out and make friends and enjoy all the activities that Virginia has to offer!
Please note - you must have a picture of yourself (preferably current) to get in the group. Thank you!
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Let's get in the holiday spirit (rain or shine outdoors)-ChesapeakeChesapeake City Park, Chesapeake, VA
This is intended to get everyone in the holiday spirit by getting together early to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc... This is a multi-meetup group event.
EVERYONE can attend this event, including those on the wait list, but only those on the RSVP yes can participate in the XMAS White Elephant/Yankee Swap/Dirty Santa.
Please feel free to come in your best XMAS ugly sweater, or other holiday outfit to get us all in the spirit of the holidays. We will have some holiday music and games to play.
Please bring a chair to sit in.
The weather has also been pretty good in late November outside. We may even have a XMAS tree, XMAS music, etc... like last year.
As you pull into the park, head to the left towards the Fun Forrest and look for the Marketplace pavilion on the right. It is the only covered shelter with no tables under it. This will allow us to have the event rain or shine.
See below for more information on the venue-
Facilities • Chesapeake City Park
NOTE: We may decide to move to a different pavilion at the park the hour leading up to the event as it is first come first serve if you do not make/pay for a reservation. Please review the comments for the event in the hour leading up to the event.
Please bring something to drink (the park is non-alcoholic so no open container) and your favorite holiday dish/tradition (with serving utensil) to share (appetizer, entree, dessert, misc, etc...). We are so looking forward to trying all those wonderful things.
The park pavilions do have electrical outlets but sometimes they are not turned on so please do not plan on having to use them. Please post in the comments what you will be bringing so we can minimize any duplicates.
If you have a folding table, please bring it as the Pavillion we are planning on using does not have any tables/chairs. We will need multiple tables. Please post in the comments to let us know you are bringing a table.
Hosts will provide the plates, cutlery, napkins, trash bags, etc..., and a couple of tables.
We will be doing a Christmas White Elephant/Yankee Swap/Dirty Santa with a twist. We are adding the twist as with a group this large, it takes too much time to allow everyone to play by the normal rules. The host will determine the final rules.
RULES: Please bring a wrapped gift (valued between $10-15) if you want to participate. This can be a gift you have gotten previously that you want to regift, etc... We will draw numbers to see who goes first. Person with the number 1 ticket takes a wrapped gift based on only the appearance of the wrapped gift. They unwrap the gift, put it back on the gift table and puts their name tag on the gift. Next person with number 2 can take an unwrapped gift from the table or chooses another wrapped gift. An unwrapped gift can only be stolen once each turn. After 3 steals, the turn ends. An unwrapped gift can only be stolen 3 times, meaning the person stealing the unwrapped gift for the 3rd time removes it from the table. When there are no more unwrapped gifts, the person who drew number 1 gets one last turn. If they decide not to steal an unwrapped gift (including the ones that were stolen 3 times), keeping the one they have, the game is over. If they do steal an unwrapped gift, the game is over.
We are having it earlier in the day and at an outdoor facility so we can accommodate more people before it starts getting cold.
NOTE: If you have not shown for an event that we have hosted and you did not change your RSVP to let us know you were not coming or you consistently cancel within a day or two of the event, we may be moving you to the wait list if the event fills up. Want to ensure that people that want to come and those that keep their RSVP updated can attend. Sorry.
Hope to see you there. Happy holidays.
