Hiking with friends - Paekakariki Escarpment Track
Details
Hey folks!
If you feel free in this Sunday and the weather isn't bad - welcome to join us for spectacular views of Kapiti Island from high above the Kāpiti Coastline on one of the region’s finest walking experiences.
The Paekakariki Escarpment Track is popular, unique trail that will appeal if you are of average-to-high fitness, have at least half a day to spare – and enjoy a sense of exhilaration! Part of New Zealand’s nationwide Te Araroa Trail, the walk has already become legendary.
***THE PLAN***
Meeting off Pukerua Bay train station (car park), and then we'll be carpooling to drive to Paekakariki station to start hiking (or we will take the train if no enough cars) - the Escarpment is a 10 km track with fairly steep sections in the middle. Only attempt if you have proper footwear and you aren't scared of heights. We'll have our lunch break in the middle.
This trip will only go ahead in nice weather and if there hasn't been too much rain in the days beforehand.
If you are unwell, please stay home and get better!!!!
***HIKE DIFFICULTY***
- Roughly 9.1KM, 300 meters elevation, 3 ~ 4 hours hiking.
- The tracks are mostly well formed, some sections very be very steep, rough or muddy. Clearly signposted.
