Wungong Dam via Wungong Creek (13km)

Details

Just a little south of Armadale is a fantastic walk to the Wungong Dam.
The Wungong Regional Park is home to the Whadjuk people. The trail follows the Wungong Brook along a deep and picturesque valley starting from the South Western Highway through to the Wungong Dam. Enjoy beautiful bushland and lovely views across the coastal plain and reservoir. At the right time of the year the creek is flowing and the wildflowers are in full bloom.
The entire track is a loop heading in a counter clockwise direction. It is challenging as it follows Wungong Creek which has a steady incline. On the way back, after the dam, the track is flat the majority of the way before heading down a steep descent back to the trailhead.
Where: MeetUp at the Start of Wungong Gorge Track, 28 Harwood Pass, Darling Downs WA 6122. Click on the map and your GPS will take you to the exact starting point.
Parking: Parking at the MeetUp point.
Difficulty: 12.95km and 418m elevation gain. This is a fairly challenging walk up through the valley. After the dam we climb a goat track, 100m in a short 300m section then a pleasant flat hilltop walk followed by a very steep decent as we return to our cars. Please do not attempt this hike unless you are a regular walker, it is not suitable for those new to walking or recovering from injury. The path can be muddy after rain.
Toilets: 2 at the dam and also later at the café.
What to bring: Hat, water and a rain jacket just in case. Poles and proper hiking shoes are recommended.
Café after the walk: Join us at the Dome in Armadale for a coffee, bite to eat and chat after the walk. 10 Orchard Ave, Armadale WA 6112 Dome
