**Distance: 17.5 km**
A pleasant (but relatively long) walk through Castlemaine and surrounds to celebrate the summer solstice! Today is the longest day of the year, so expect a relaxing walk that will finish relatively late; shortly after sundown (which will be around 9.30 pm).
Starting in and finishing in Castlemaine, this hike takes us into the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park, which was added to the Victorian Heritage Register in December 2003. It is the largest non-indigenous protected cultural landscape in Australia. In January 2005 the park was added to the Australian National Heritage List recognizing its outstanding heritage value and importance in the course of Australia’s migration history. There is gold in these hills; any gold found on this hike naturally will be handed over to the leader.
The hike is not particularly difficult, but is rather long. Please bring two torches in addition to everything else. As opposed to bringing lunch, you will be bringing dinner!
