Intermediate course - take your skills to a next level!

Based on already known rhythms/patterns, we add more complexe rhythms and refine your technique. We have a deeper look at the cultural background, musical language and the principles of (west-)African music. You gonna develop a deeper understanding of each instruments' role (djembé, bass drums, bells) and how they communicate/interact with eachother. You'll play the typical elements of westafrican rhythms: Intro, Solo, Signal, Echauffement and accompanying patterns.
You also make first experiences in free improvisation and use your creativity.
This course requires some basic level of djembé (and bass drum) playing as well as some level of “sense of rhythm” and coordination. Of course, we will continue to work on them in the classes!
