How Does It Work?
A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure, supportive atmosphere. Toastmasters believe in constructive feedback to improve. A typical group has 20 to 30 members who meet weekly. A typical meeting lasts exactly 60 minutes.
Every Toastmasters' journey begins with a single speech. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings, and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar, and parliamentary procedure.
Members learn communication skills by working in the new, fully online learning experience called Pathways which contains 14 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in Public Speaking. There are 11 Paths to choose from. Listening skills are also honed by acting as the Grammarian and or the Ah Counter.
Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles and Club Officer roles. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and mentoring to help. Then we ask them to lead. A mentor is assigned to help you.
We empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. Just show up. No requirements other than being 18 years old and up.
Every week on Thursday
